| About |
| Folk Art South Africa was born out of a passion for South African folk art and a strong desire to contribute to the needs of those living with HIV/AIDS. 10% of all proceeds from your purchases are donated to the South Africa Development Fund which sends funds directly to HIV/AIDS projects in the Western Cape. The South Africa Development Fund (SADF) is a U.S.-based tax exempt public charity who has used its grantmaking to focus on the needs of the most disadvantaged sectors of South African society. For the fourth consecutive year, Charity Navigator has awarded the South Africa Development Fund a 4 star rating (it’s highest) for sound fiscal management. South Africa has the highest burden of HIV/AIDS in all of sub-Saharan Africa. As there is a stigma attached to those living with HIV/AIDS in South Africa, there is also severe discrimination. Such discrimination results in those with HIV/AIDS being unable to find employment. For those living with HIV/AIDS, the production of crafts not only instills them with pride and dignity in the face of adversity, it also provides a much-needed income. Folk Art South Africa has formed partnerships with several HIV/AIDS community crafts and income generation projects. These projects are critical to helping those living with HIV/AIDS to attain a sustainable income. Our mission is to support these artisans and is based on the principles of fair trade. |
